Peaks Island is surrounded by the Casco Bay and part of Portland...It's approximately 3 miles from downtown. The island became a popular summer destination in the late 19th century, when it was known as the Coney Island of Maine, home to hotels, cottages, theaters, and amusement parks.
While small, the island hosts a variety of businesses including an ice cream parlor, restaurant, markets, kayak rentals, art galleries....
Before we Boarded the Ferry to the Island we headed across the Street to The Standard Baking Co. for a cup of Coffee and a Snack
Kev waiting for the Ferry to arrive
It's a 20 minute ferry ride on Casco Bay Lines which operates 10-13 ferry runs a day depending on the time of year. The island is approximately 2 miles long and 1 mile wide (at it's widest point). If you keep to the shore roads, the island can be walked easily in an hour or biked in 15-20 minutes.
